    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare to select a dog for various disciplines. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Disciplines may include but is not limited to - Guard dogs, patrol dogs, tracking dogs, explosive dogs or narcotics dogs.

    The reasons for obtaining organisational needs are explained in terms of procurement procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Characteristics of various breeds of dogs are identified in terms of its application in a structured scenario. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Characteristics required for different applications of a dog are identified in order to prepare a learner to select a dog for various disciplines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Reasons for identifying characteristics, drives and breeds for the selection of dogs are explained in terms of its application for various disciplines.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Profile documents required for procurement are compiled in order to make an informed decision regarding the procurement of the dog. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The conclusion of the procurement process is explained in a structured scenario. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Conclusion of procurement process may refer to but is not limited to kennelling of dogs, transporting dogs, payment, medical records and record keeping.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The dog is assessed in a structured scenario by using different techniques in order to determine suitability for a specific discipline. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Different techniques may include techniques to determine suitability in terms of drive, characteristics and breed.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Suitability for use of dog is evaluated with reference to age, health and characteristics as required for a specific discipline. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Health may include taking the dog to a vet for examination.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
