PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner credited with this Unit Standard will be able to install and secure OHTE switches safely, according to approved specifications and instructions and efficiently under isolated and earthed conditions thus contributing to the safe running of electric trains as well as ensuring the continuity of power supply in the Rail Sector.

Successful learners may be certified by the Rail authorities as competent to install and secure switches under isolated and earthed conditions.

It is assumed that learners are already competent in the following:
