PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable the learner to function as part of a multidisciplinary health assessment team in a community.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Participate in assessing a community using prescribed methods and instruments.
  • Collect and present data for analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist in prioritizing community needs.
  • Explain the influence of specific context variables on the health or health care of a community.

    The learners will function within institutional policies related to specific occupational settings, as well as the parameters of the capacities of the learner at this level. Enrolled auxiliary nurse learners will also function within the scope of practice of an enrolled auxiliary nurse as formulated by the South African Nursing Council Regulations.
