PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable the learner to utilise cultural, religious, socio-economic, educational knowledge and sensitivity to interact effectively and professionally with clients and members of the health team.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Show socio-cultural awareness when dealing with patients, colleagues and members of the community.
  • Use own ethno-socio-cultural health belief system to enhance cultural sensitivity and better communication with others.
  • Identify significant cultural dimensions in a culture other than one's own.

    Learners will function within institutional policies related to specific occupational settings and the parameters of the capabilities of the learner at this level. Enrolled auxiliary nurse learners will also function within the scope of practice for enrolled auxiliary nurses as formulated by the South African Nursing Council.
