PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable the learner to identify the needs of the patient through the application of the scientific approach to nursing. The learner will also be able to apply those needs which fall within the parameters of the capabilities of the learner at this level, according to the scope of practice of an enrolled auxiliary nurse as formulated by the South African Nursing Council.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of the client's needs. Learners will also function within the institutional policies related to specific occupational settings.

The learner will be able to meet the following needs:
  • Homeostasis.
  • Elimination.
  • Mobility, rest and sleep.
  • Nutrition.
  • Spiritual, psychological and physical comfort.
  • Hygiene.
  • Emergency care. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
