PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable the learner to apply knowledge of the ethical and legal codes relevant to the nursing profession during her/his activities as a health worker.

The learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Provide nursing care according to accepted ethical codes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the functioning of the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills for safe nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rights of individuals or groups in the healthcare setting.

    Learners will function within the scope of practice of an enrolled auxiliary nurse as formulated by the South African Nursing Council Regulations, institutional policies related to specific occupational settings and the parameters of the capabilities of the learner at this level.
