PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This Unit Standard is intended for learners who are required to apply geographical knowledge and skill in authentic situations. It will be useful for tour guides and other learners in travel and tourism, fieldworkers and learners who use maps and other spatial sources in the course of their work.

Different types of maps and other forms of spatial information are identified and appropriate sources are selected for a specific purpose. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE |
Maps and forms of spatial information include, but are not limited to, maps , street guides, atlases, aerial photographs, satellite images, orthophotos, digital, thematic, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), topographical, topo-cadastral, physical and political maps synoptic charts, and plans. |

The use of colour on spatial images is explained with reference to what different colours represent on different images. |

The use of different lines, points and shaded areas as symbols on maps is explained with reference to the kind of information represented by each. |
