PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications. The learner is capable of removing automotive components for dismantling, inspection or replacement. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the learner has already learned the use of engineering hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment and to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

Learners can plan and prepare for automotive component removal. 
OUTCOME RANGE 
  • Planning includes reading and interpreting the job card/work instructions and obtaining data on manufacturers recommendations and guidelines.
  • Preparing includes selecting appropriate tools and equipment, cleaning component and its surrounding area prior to removal, releasing system pressure, isolating electrical system and disconnecting the battery.
  • Appropriate tools and equipment means industry approved tools and equipment as being most suited to complete the task in a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices.
