PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to explain and describe the sequence of events during the build-up and break down of exhibitions. Competency in the unit standard also means that the learner's understanding of the relationships between participants during the process ensures the smooth running of the exhibition.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining the sequence of events during the contractors' build-up.
  • Explaining the sequence of events during the exhibitors' build-up.
  • Explaining the sequence of events of exhibitors' break-down.
  • Explaining the sequence of events during the contractors' break-down.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Competence in Computer Literacy, Mathematical Literacy and Communication at NQF level 2 or equivalent.

    Inspection of the venue and the reading of meters on arrival are necessary when described in terms of the financial implications for the exhibition organiser. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Using the correct venue layout is necessary for marking out the venue. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Venue ducting is explained according to venue, exhibitions and statutory requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The order in which contractors will work is sequenced and listed to ensure efficient construction of an exhibition.

    Exhibitors' needs during build-up are listed ensuring that all items/goods are available on time.

    Late or last-minute orders impact on efficient and effective exhibition build-up.

    Explain the sequence of events during the exhibitors' break-down. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The implications of Exhibitors leaving the exhibition before official closing, impact on the success of the exhibition. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The limited removal of hand-held goods from the exhibition stands after official closing is consistent with expo. policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The legal and practical implications of exhibitors failing to break-down within the agreed time frame is described in terms of their impact on the exhibition organiser.

    Explain the sequence of events during the contractors' break-down.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The need for public liability insurance by all parties is explained within the exhibition industry in line with relevant legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The practical implications of removing electrical fittings first is explained in term of safety and legislative requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The order in which contractors will remove goods is listed to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
