This Unit Standard is intended for persons who conduct administrative functions in the middle and back office in an Asset Management environment.

A person credited with this Unit Standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of principles, process, and risks, of corporate events and entitlements on holdings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of types and impact of corporate events and entitlement on holdings.
  • Perform monitoring process using relevant data sources.
  • Process corporate events on to the investment administration system.

    Processes of corporate events and entitlements are explained for all investment instruments as per market practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Operational risks associated with corporate events and entitlements are explained as per defined investment instruments. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Processing of corporate events and entitlements and the impact on the resulting accounting entries are determined as per company policy. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate an understanding of types and impact of corporate events and entitlement on holdings. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Impact types may include, but is not limited to Book Value, Market Value, Holdings, Realised and Unrealised profits and losses, Derivatives, Cash, transactions generated arising out of Corporate Actions.

    Corporate event types are identified for all the investment instruments as per market practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Non-dividend and dividend corporate events are identified and defined for all investment instruments as per market practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Impact of the corporate events is identified for each instrument as per company procedure.

    Perform monitoring process using relevant data sources.

    Data Sources include but are not limited to Financial Press, Company Secretaries, CSDP's, Exchanges, Electronic Data Vendors

    Sources of corporate action information are identified as per defined procedure.

    Integrity of data sources is verified as per defined procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Queries raised on anomalies are resolved as per company procedure.

    Process corporate events on to the investment administration system.

    Reconciliation of corporate event is conducted with custodian holdings as per company procedure.
