PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of how and why the business system of a business entity is aligned with its strategy and its objectives.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Define the the terms "vision" and "mission"
  • Relate the organisation's vision and mission to its objectives
  • Define and analyse the key elements of the business strategy of the organisation
  • Describe how the business systems support the organisation's strategy and objectives
  • Relate the alignment of a business process to the overall business system strategy 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • End User Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication skills at NQF level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which ERP systems can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learners awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation.

    Relate the organisation's vision and mission to its objectives.

    A definition of the terms "vision" and "mission" are clearly given in a presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The purposes of "vision" and "mission" statements are communicated by means of an oral presentation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Oral presentation may be substituted by sign language presentation or using enabling devices.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The vision and mission are explained in relation to the objectives of the organisation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Analyse the key elements of the business strategy of the organisation.

    The way in which a business strategy informs/impacts the day to day operations of the company is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The business strategy is outlined and its key elements are elaborated within the context of the organisation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Describe how the business systems support the organisation's strategy and objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A business system is analysed with a view to documenting its contribution to the strategy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A practical example is provided of how the business system assists in meeting an objective within the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Business system elements that are counter-productive to the achievement of the organisations strategy and objective are outlined with an indication given of their negative impact. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Business system elements may include but are not limited to specific processes, policies, procedures, functionality, measurements, key performance indicators (kpi's).
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Relate the alignment of a business process to the overall business system strategy.

    The ways in which a specific business process impacts on the business strategy is explained with examples.

    A critical evaluation is given of the alignment of a specific business process to the business strategy.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
