PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is for learners in the Policing environment that will manage and maintain an effective informer and agent network during the execution of their duties

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Handle and task an informer and agent
  • Brief and debrief informers and agents
  • Conduct and execute infiltration techniques
  • Keep informers and agent safe

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the policing environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    Focus recruitments of agents are conducted according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Agents that fulfill the criteria are recruited, provided with identification numbers and are registered according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Potential agents are listed and are privately visited according to organizational policies and procedures.

    The Miss Document is compiled with according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Building of a legend for your agent according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The agent is trained and assistance is provided in the building of the legend according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A trustworthy relationship is built and maintained between the handler and the agent according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Tasks are continuously assigned and feedback obtained according to the requests according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The agent is trained and assistance is provided in the infiltration techniques according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The need for the withdrawal of the agent is determined and acted upon in the event of exposure or life threatening situation according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Keep informers/agent safe.

    Witness Protection Programme is applied for according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Ensure the approval of the Witness protection Programme according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Ensure that the agent adheres to the agreements of the Witness Protection Programme according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    In the event of the Witness Protection Programme not being approved, a safe house is utilised as an alternative according to organizational policies and procedures. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures

    The standard describes competent performance in doing physical techniques that will enhance their job performance, and lay down the criteria by which competence should be judged, as well as the range of circumstances in which competence should be demonstrated. Integrated assessment methods and tools will allow the candidate to demonstrate that she/ he has acquired knowledge of and can safely and effectively apply competence identified in this unit standard.
