PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this Unit Standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the Employment Equity Act (EEA), of the nature of terminal or chronic illnesses particularly HIV/Aids, and impact the two areas have on each other and on the workplace. The learner will also be able to discuss how terminal or chronic illnesses, particularly HIV/Aids, and employment equity (EE) are being dealt with in a specific organisation.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Explain the impact of terminal and chronic illnesses such as HIV/Aids on a company's ability to develop skills and promote diversity. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A report on the current impact of various terminal and chronic illnesses in a workplace is produced in line with the company's reporting standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A presentation on the impact of these illnesses is given to key stakeholders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Future planning to accommodate as a result of the impact of terminal and chronic illnesses, such as HIV/Aids, are documented for decision-making purposes. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Analyse a company's efforts to clarify assumptions, expectations and fears raised by stakeholders with respect to HIV/Aids and other terminal and chronic illnesses.

    A company's efforts are analysed and presented to an appropriate audience.

    A survey is conducted to assess employee opinion on the company's response to terminal and chronic illnesses which affect employees.

    A gap analysis between company effort and employee expectation is drawn up in an easily understandable, well constructed report.

    The Employment Equity Committee is presented with recommendations to address gaps in a persuasive manner. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Explain how elements in South Africa's legal framework around terminal and chronic illnesses in the workplace affect employees and employers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A document is drawn up outlining the implications to organization of the legal framework on HIV/Aids and other terminal and chronic illnesses. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The legal requirements of an organization relating to HIV/AIDS are explained in a report. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The workshop results are fed back to the company via well-constructed presentations and/or written reports. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Identify of positive measures taken to promote a non-discriminatory work environment with special reference to HIV/Aids and terminal and chronic illnesses in general.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The elements of a non-discriminatory environment are outlined accurately, in writing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A list of positive measures is produced with brief reference to their effectiveness.

    Relate the application of the EEA to dealing with terminal and chronic illnesses like HIV/Aids in the workplace.

    The major features of the Employment Equity Act are outlined in writing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Ways in which the Employment Equity Act could be implemented in relation to terminal and chronic illnesses, such as HIV/Aids is discussed with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The impact of HIV/Aids and other terminal and chronic illnesses on Occupational Transformation and Change Management is explained with examples. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
