PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner is capable of:
Operating, maintaining and shutting-down steel bending machines in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and legislative and workplace safety requirements. Demonstrate techniques for bending, bundling and tagging steel. Prepare layout of a steel bending workshop
Learners who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to work in a steel bending workshop and operate and maintain steel bending machinery. In addition to the above learners will be able to prepare and bend steel, bend steel and conduct post bending operations.

It contributes to socio-economic transformation in that learners will be able to undergo RPL assessment and receive recognition for previous learning and experience. The employability and career prospects of learners can therefore be enhanced by this unit standard.

  • The learner must prove to be competent on steel bending, either manually or using a computerised steel bending machine.

    All tools and equipment required for the task are identified and ensured to be functional, and are ready for use at the work area.

    The steel bending machine is checked to be functional in terms of the manufacturer's specifications and start up procedures.
