PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard will be useful to people who wish to use the essentials of the Christian Faith to encourage others to become followers of Jesus Christ.

People credited with this Unit Standard know and are able to explain to others the essentials of the Christian teaching on salvation and Christian discipleship. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner shall be assumed to be competent in Communication at NQF Level 1. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The following scope and context applies to the whole unit standard:
  • Learners would practise these skills in a structured, hypothetical situation first before approaching others.
  • Appropriateness to the context and sensitivity of approach and language are critical and should be well thought through and applied.

    Salvation is described from Biblical perspectives.

    Salvation is described from a Christian perspective.

    Explain the human need for salvation in the light of God's desire to be in relationship with people.

    The concept of human brokenness is explained and discussed in terms of examples from the selected Biblical texts. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The understanding of the need of salvation is explained as taught in the Bible and by the church. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The learner's realisation of the need for salvation is explained and discussed in terms of his experiences and those of others. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The purpose of salvation is explained and discussed as being the re-establishment of a relationship with the Godhead. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The transformation that takes place is explained in terms of salvation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Describe God's plan for salvation throughout Scripture. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Both Old and New Testaments are included. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    God's purpose for creating humankind is described in terms of God's desired relationship with humans. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Various Biblical texts are used to explain the perfect (ideal) relationship in which God created humans. At least five texts should be quoted.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The broken relationship with God is explained in terms of the disobedience of humankind - the "fall". 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Genesis 1-3 as well as other relevant passages.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A step by step account of God's plan for salvation is given with reference to specific texts in the Bible. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    At least five Biblical references should be quoted showing the ongoing nature of God's plan of salvation.

    Explain the meaning of 'disciple' from Biblical, Christian and personal perspectives.

    The meaning of 'discipleship' is explained and discussed from a Biblical perspective.

    At least five Biblical passages are referred to. May include denominational perspectives. These must include Jesus' last command to go and make disciples.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The meaning of 'discipleship' is explained and discussed from a Christian perspective. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The meaning of 'discipleship' is explained from a personal perspective. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Discipleship as part of God's plan for salvation is made clear with the help of texts from the Bible.

    The implications of 'discipleship' are discussed with references to personal experiences and those of others.
