PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard in combination with context expertise standard(s) will be able to co-ordinate the implementation of a sanitation project on the basis of a comprehensive quality management system. Learners accessing this standard will be involved in developing and maintaining the quality management system over the life cycle of a sanitation improvement project. This will contribute towards effective sanitation project management. The unit standard will expand the skills base of the qualifying learner and make the person more effective in his/her tasks and will open up job opportunities in related fields. |

UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
Learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard should be able to co-ordinate implementation of a sanitation project. They should be able to use quality management systems, monitoring and evaluation tools, and reporting procedures appropriate to the requirements of a sanitation project and set up systems at this level for the use of these tools and procedures so that fieldworkers they a working with are also able to contribute to quality management, reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
Role players in the sanitation project environment could include municipal representatives and officials, government department representatives, funders, project manager, project team members, community members, householders, project steering committee, ward committee, municipal officials and representatives, project employees, sub-contractors and other providers of goods and services. Marginalised groups could include the disabled, the aged, children, the sick, people living with HIV/AIDS, etc. |

Integrated Assessment
When conducting assessments, assessors must ensure that they are familiar with the full text of the unit standards being assessed. Assessors must ensure that the assessment covers the specific outcomes, critical cross-field outcomes and essential embedded knowledge by developing assessment activities and tools, which are appropriate to the contexts in which the learners are working. These activities and tools may include self-assessment, peer assessment, formative and summative assessment. It may be more effective and efficient to assess a number of unit standards together in an integrated way, thus reducing the overall number of assessments and ensuring that commonalities that exist between a number of unit standards are captured in a way that makes sense for assessment. |
