PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to according to company procedure, identify what goods are to be delivered, obtain the correct documentation, receive the goods and check against documentation for accuracy. Learners are also able to store the received goods in the correct location and report any damages to the responsible person or take the necessary action where required.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Obtaining documents of goods to be received.
  • Receiving and checking new goods.
  • Storing new goods.
  • Reporting and recording damaged goods received. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF level 2 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Product specifications include but are not limited to: size, colour, shape, title, calibre etc.
  • Preparation for storage includes but is not limited to: covering the goods in plastic/sleeves, labelling goods with stickers, tagging goods with tags, placing high value goods in safe area, placing products on pallets etc.
  • New product documentation storage includes but is not limited to: manual storage systems, computer based storage systems etc.

    Obtain documents of goods to be received.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Delivery notes are obtained for new goods to be delivered according to expected delivery dates. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    New goods to be collected documentation is obtained according to expected delivery/collection dates. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Outstanding goods to be delivered schedule is obtained for goods according to new expected delivery dates. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Receive and check new goods.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    New goods are checked against delivery note for correct number, correct type and correct product specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    New goods received are checked for damages, where damages occur, correct documentation is completed and responsible person notified following company standards and procedures.

    Store new goods.

    New goods received are labelled/tagged and prepared for storage following correct storage procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    New stock log sheets are completed in required format and within the specified timeframe and stored according to set company standards.

    Report and record damaged goods received.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    New goods received damaged are returned to the supplier after correct documentation is completed and returned with the delivering driver. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Shortages due to damages are recorded for follow up delivery or credit refund from suppliers and documentation is completed in the required format, within the required timeframe. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Damage report is completed in detail and submitted to authorised person in the required format and timeframe. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Supplier is contacted and damages reported at the time of receipt following set company standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Corrective action is agreed with the supplier and outcome/solution is documented in required format.
