Supplementary Information Definitions: UXO: Unexploded Ordinance (blind or misfire). Accessories: The equipment that is utilized to prepare an explosive charge/device which are not classified as ammunition or explosives. Detonator: A device which turns some external impulse such as heat, electricity, friction or a mechanical blow into a detonation shock wave. Detonators are generally classified as percussion, stab, electric or flash. Danger Area: The space round the point where an explosion or detonation occurs within which damage may be caused. It may be divided into two distinct zones: blast zone and fragment zone. Explosives: Explosives are solid, liquid, or gelatinous substances or mixtures of individual substances, which have been manufactured for blasting or propulsion purposes, whether alone or mixed with one another. They are in a meta-stable state and are capable, for this reason, of undergoing a rapid chemical reaction without the participation of external reactants such as atmospheric oxygen. High Explosives: An explosive capable of being detonated. Initiation: The starting or first step in an explosive reaction. Low Explosives: An explosive initiated with an open flame.
