PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is for learners in the field of policing within the field of safety in society who coordinate and uphold the execution of the Constitution of South Africa (chapter 2 - Bill of rights) and legal prescripts with a level of authority that allow them to take decisions independently.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Coordinate the application of the Criminal Justice procedures regarding Legal Prescripts
  • Uphold the execution of the rights of officials
  • Uphold the rights of victims of crime in the delivery of victim support
  • Uphold the rights of suspects and detainees during arrest and detention

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the policing environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    This unit standard applies to persons coordinating and supervising officials with a level of authority that will allow them to take decisions independently.

    Health and Safety working conditions are upheld in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

    Fair labour practices are promoted according to organizational procedures.

    The right to association is promoted in terms of the Constitution of South Africa.

    The right to training and development is promoted in terms of Legal Provisions (Policies) of the organisation.

    The right to freedom of religion is upheld according to the Constitution of South Africa.

    Officials are informed of their rights according to the Constitution of South Africa.

    Registers and receipts protecting the rights of suspects and detainees are inspected according to organizational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Rights of suspects and detainees are upheld in terms of section 35 of the Constitution of South Africa.

    Various classes of suspects and detainees are admitted separately according to organizational procedures.

    The provisioning of section 36 of the Constitution of South Africa is explained to officials according to organizational procedures. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
