PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard forms part of the National Certificate in Auctioneering Support. While it is suited for people working within the auctioneering industry it would also be applicable to any person responsible for working with livestock, game and agricultural

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and describing dangerous situations and events that have potential to harm workers and the work environment
  • Identifying risk and applying risk assessment procedures in the auctioning industry
  • Limiting damage to people, property and equipment in the case of emergency
  • Identifying and applying preventative procedures related to transmittable diseases
  • Monitoring the implementation of the health and safety plan, systems and procedures

    Methods for monitoring the effectiveness of safety issues control are described in accordance with organisational requirements.

    Situations of risk are identified in terms of frequency, impact and level of risk in the auctioneering industry.

    The location of fire fighting equipment is known by pointing out locations at a site.

    Different types of fire fighting equipment is identified and used according to accepted practice.

    Emergency procedures are identified and explained according to organisational practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The location of first aid supplies and first aid staff is known and explained in a written report.

    Identify and apply preventative procedures related to transmittable diseases.

    The types of transmittable diseases found amongst livestock and game are listed in a table together with their preventative procedures.

    The types of transmittable diseases found amongst agricultural products are listed in a table together with their preventative procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Procedures to prevent the spreading of transmittable diseases amongst livestock and game are implemented according to organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Procedures to prevent the spreading of transmittable diseases amongst agricultural products are implemented according to organisational procedures.

    Changes in safety compliance needs are detected and reviewed timeously and the policies and procedures amended accordingly.
