A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Palletising fruit for storage or despatch of pallets to customers.

    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy, numeracy and communication skills at or equivalent to NQF level 1.
  • Product characteristics.
  • Knowledge of fruit market requirements. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The scope of this unit standard deals with the palletising of fruit process.
  • The specific outcomes reflected in this unit standard should be performed without direct supervision, but with access to work site procedures and operating instructions.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Assessors will observe, confirm and evaluate evidence that will indicate that learners have demonstrated competence in each of the specific outcomes. In this unit standard the following specific criteria should be used:

    Reasons for:
  • Selecting equipment.
  • Ensuring availability of palletising materials.
  • Sending non-conforming pallets to rework area.
  • Isolating sample cartons.

    Consequenses of not:
  • Performing quality checks on pallets.
  • Ensuring pallets are separated.
  • Coordinating strapping stacking and securing cartons.
  • Completing relevant documentation.
  • Ensuring thermocouples are inserted in specified cartons.
  • Informing relevant parties. 

  • SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Complete palletising fruit. 
    OUTCOME NOTES 
  • Coordinating stacking, strapping and securing of cartons on pallets according to specifications/market requirements.
  • Ensuring thermocouples are inserted into specified cartons in pallets for temperature monitoring as required.
  • Ensuring sample cartons per pallet are isolated and dispatched for inspection purposes.
  • Performing quality checks on pallets and report deviations.
  • Ensuring pallets are separated according to market segmentation.
