PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the tyre manufacturing field who have to ensure that materials, components or products are ready for the next stage when required. Qualifying learners are able to keep the manufacturing processes going by collecting the correct materials, components or finished products in terms of quality and quantity and supplying them safely and timeously for processing or testing. They will understand the importance of having prepared material, components or products ready for processing and how this is achieved. This will include a basic knowledge of the transportation and storage of material.

The skills and knowledge required for this unit standard can be acquired in one of the following contexts:
  • Tyre and tyre component manufacturing
  • Quality checking and final finishing

    The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in Tyre and Tyre Component Manufacturing (NQF Level 2), the National Certificate in Quality Checking and Finishing of Manufactured Tyres (NQF Level 2), and related qualifications.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for activities below, at and above this level. The credits assigned to it are based on the assumption that I am learning what is needed for this unit standard as part of an integrated learning programme for a range of related unit standards. If I have experience in these related activities but do not have credits for them, I can obtain credits by being assessed through a process that recognises prior learning.
