The purpose of this unit standard is to enable learners to:
  • Maintain sound equipment.
  • Perform basic line checks.
  • Perform or facilitate repairing procedures.

    The unit standard contributes to the competence of those learners who want to pursue a career in Sound Engineering, and contribute to greater levels of competence, and thus productivity and quality in the Music Industry.

    Parts and other maintenance requirements are secured timeously to ensure efficient maintenance.

    Preparation for the maintenance is done optimally to prevent/minimise loss of productivity.

    Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and fault-finding procedures on sound equipment.

    Parts are dissembled carefully so as to minimise damage and in accordance with manufacturers` recommendations.

    Parts are handled appropriately and according to manufacturers instructions.

    Parts are assessed for functionality, prior to installation.
