PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The qualifying learner will be able to place the heritage sector within the framework of local, provincial, national and international policies and applications. This will assist the learner in acquiring an overview of the types of regulations and guidelines governing the management of cultural landscapes to enable effective and sustainable participation in heritage development practices. |

Policy and legislation
Policies and legislation studied at the national, provincial and local authority level are selected by the learner depending on the learner`s interests and physical place of residence and/or work. International policies and legislations are negotiated between the educator and the learner with emphasis on the relevance of the policy to the learner`s identified knowledge and skill needs. Heritage development and sustainability Heritage institutions and agencies should cover: Cultural heritage management is explored from policy issues through to integrated environmental management plans and programmes and are appropriate to the learners identified knowledge and skills needs. Case studies should reflect the learner having investigated examples and evidence on either a local/regional/provincial level and a comparison being made to national/international studies. |
