PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
Performing, without supervision, the preparation of wheat for milling, to maintain consistent quality of finished products. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy, numeracy and communication skills at or equivalent to NQF level 1.
  • Attended a course in preparing wheat for milling.
    Or
  • Had in house training in preparing wheat for milling.
  • An understanding of General Safety in the work place at NQF level 1. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The scope of this unit standard deals with the preparation of wheat for milling by removing seeds and cereals whichare other than wheat, since, they would affect the quality of finished products.

    The removal of stones of similar size to wheat which would affect quality and damage machines in the process.

    Scouring the final vestiges of dust from the wheat kernel.
    NB. All the above cannot be removed by conventional sieving.

    The specific outcomes reflected in this unit standard should be performed without direct supervision, but with access to work site procedures and operating instructions.

    NB. Unit standard GRM 001 Preparing wheat for milling only applies to wheat milling.
