PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners who achieve this standard will be able to demonstrate that they are aware of the relationship between the rights and responsibilities as a homeowner or a tenant, regarding financial, legislative, technical, communal and environmental aspects, and are able to manage their rights and responsibilities in a constructive way. They will also be aware of the rights and responsibilities of providers of housing; whether these are sellers, lenders or landlords.

Awareness of rights and responsibilities help learners become active housing consumers. This contributes to a stable and safe housing environment in which individuals and families can lead a quality life and develop to their fullest potential. This will ultimately contribute to the social and economic transformation of South Africa.

In order to apply this standard, it is assumed that learners are able to read and write to a level appropriate for NQF Level 1.
