PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Qualifying learners will be able to produce recyclable chemical compounds and steam, by combusting spent magnesium sulphite liquor generated during pulp production, by operating, monitoring and controlling the process whilst adhering to Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements. They also understand the fundamental process principles of the combustion of spent magnesium sulphite. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners attempting this unit standard are required to read, understand and interpret operating manuals which are of a technical nature. It is therefore required that they have achieved NQF level 3 or equivalent accreditation. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
This unit standard covers the process from combusting spent-liquor to the preparation of magnesium sulphite cooking liquor.
