PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to start up and shut down machinery, maintain the output of machinery and assist with bunkering procedures. They will also be able to assist with pumping operations on board a vessel.

In compliance with current Maritime Legislation, Codes and Practices, the scope of this unit standard covers the competence to assist with the safe operation of a vessel`s main and auxiliary machinery, and control systems as required by an engine room rating (oiler), on board a seagoing vessel. Specific range statements are provided in the body of the unit standard where they apply to particular specific outcome or assessment criteria. |
