PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to interpret gear plans and adjust trawls before deployment. They will also be able to maintain, adjust and position the vessel and gear during deployment, fishing and retrieval in order to optimize the catch.

Monitoring includes but is not limited to: vertical and horizontal warp angle; time, distance and angle of gear to vessel; vessel towing speed and direction; visual and electronic position fixing methods; use of electronic detection equipment (echo sounder, net sonar or sounder). |

The position of the vessel during trawl deployment is monitored and adjusted to optimize the catch in accordance with the fishing strategy and enterprise procedures. |
