Learners acquiring this standard will be learning towards obtaining a national qualification or are working within the logistical activities of a company in a management environment, where acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to learners job, or chances of finding employment.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Internal and external customer service audits are planned and executed and are done by means of corporate customer service questionnaires, organised meetings and interviews with management, departments, suppliers, and clients. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The data gathered from internal and external audits is transformed into management decision-making information used to design different customer service level standards, which meets organisational standards, as well as the expectations of the respective clients. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The identification of areas where customer service can be improved results in the reduced total cost of logistics, maximisation of resources and increased profitability. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The analysis of business interruptions and customer reactions out-of-stock situations is used to develop customer service strategies that meets organisational standards and prioritises customers and products.

    1. The explanation of how an integrated approach to logistics activities can be implemented within the organisation promotes the concept of reduced total cost to the company and is consistent with organisational mission and vision. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Logistic cost calculations are used to measure the overhaul profitability of the organisation and identify areas which requires improvement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The analysis of financial ratios is used to identify unacceptable management within the organisation and proposals on how to improve on these management activities.

    1. The comparison and modal selection of transportation is based on modal characteristics as well as passenger/freight characteristics. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Transport carrier selection is done according to carrier characteristics consistent with organisational policies, regulations and standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The analysis and definition of transport management activities is consistent with organisational job description and reflects a holistic perspective of the transport function. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The analysis of transportation costing and performance measurement is done within the context of transportation productivity. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The explanation of where and how computer technology is applied within the transport function is consistent with organisational transportation computer technology. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    6. The planning of inter-modal transportation routes is calculated by the evaluation of all route and product characteristics, resulting in the most cost-effective route being selected.

    1. The analysis and definition of warehousing functions and activities is consistent with organisational needs for product movement, storage and information transfer. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The selection of appropriate warehouse handling equipment is based on the consideration of physical dimensions, financial implications, flexibility required and maintenance requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The size and layout of a warehouse is planned by considering the characteristics of the product, handling equipment, volume and demand. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The planning of the number of warehouses required is based on the cost of logistical activities required for product/inventory movement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The consideration of the utilisation of public, private or both types of warehouses is based on minimum overall cost to company and is consistent with organisational demand forecasting. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    6. The explanation of computer technology used in the warehousing environment is consistent with efficient flow of information between the respective business functions of the organisation.

    3. The description of materials management techniques is consistent with management materials management strategies.

    4. The identification and definition of inventory carrying cost-factors leads to reduced overall logistic costs and improved cash flow.

    5. The explanation of the impact of inventory investment on corporate profit performance is based on the concept of economic ordering quantities and also addresses the impact of ordering lead times.

    6. The ability to control purchasing cost is measured and evaluated as an indicator of purchasing performance, which meets organisational standards and requirements.

    3. The identification and analysis of the respective components of ordering lead times improves the overall performance of the order cycle.
