PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who are, or seek to be, active in the local economic development sector in South Africa. It introduces the learner to the concepts of stakeholders and role players with examples of each. It also introduces the learner to the concepts of roles, functions and responsibilities to enhance an understanding of how stakeholders and role players relate to one another.

People credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Identify the internal and external stakeholders in the local economic development environment and explain their roles, functions and responsibilities.
  • Identify the role players in the local economic development environment and explain their roles, functions and responsibilities.
  • Discuss the concept of stakeholder and role player relationships with one another in the local economic development environment.

    3. Possible role conflict issues for the local economic development practitioner are identified and ways of addressing them are discussed with reference to examples from own work context.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or will assess this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQ, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
