PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable construction tilers to apply special tiles to surfaces. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. Specialist tiling methods include one or more of: cut and polished stone tiles (granite, marble, travertine, etc), and other specialist cladding systems.

2. New and previously tiled surfaces are prepared.

3. Special tiles include for interior and exterior surfaces.

1. Tiles are cut and applied to surfaces with specified adhesive, according to line and level.

2. Gaps between tiles are uniform and grouted with tile grout.

3. Tiled surfaces are cleaned completely.

4. All tiles are applied in accordance with manufacturer specifications and requirements.
