PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable Tilers to apply different tiles to plastered walls and columns, around attached piers and baths and to screeded floors and concrete steps. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. Internal and external corners are to be tiled such that they are square and joints are in line and evenly spaced.

2. Tiles include ceramic, glazed and unglazed, concrete, "terrazzo", porcelain, of different sizes, thicknesses, beveled and unbeveled.

3. Tile adhesives and grouts can be cement-based or non-cement-based.

4. SABS Code of Practice for ceramic tiles to be adhered to.

5. Provision is made for expansion and contraction at expansion joints when tiling around a bath.

Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard.
