| INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
| The qualification has been compared against similar qualifications internationally. In particular, it compares favourably with similar qualifications offered in Ireland and Australia.
In Ireland at Griffith College the Advanced Certificate in Photography is being offered. The aim of the qualification is to provide learners with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently in a professional photographic setting. The qualification focuses primarily on the technical and historical aspects of Photography. The aim is to ensure that learners are competent and confident in both the usage of camera controls and darkroom techniques. Learners also develop a sound understanding of light and exposure, studio lighting techniques and the technical, aesthetic and communicative aspects of the medium of photography, both analogue and digital. In New Zealand a Certificate in Advanced Photography is offered. The qualification is designed to progress and accelerate the learner's understanding of the photographic process with particular emphasis on studio photography, Modern Digital Photography, Alternative Processing and Darkroom Techniques as they relate to commercial or personal applications. Conclusion: This qualification compares favourably with the cited international cases since it has certain features and aspects of Visual Communication (including basic aspects of visual literacy) in the qualification to build a conceptual foundation for photography practice as a mode of visual communication. Furthermore, learners master various software packages related to digital image manipulation in line with current trends in this industry. |
