The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
This qualification is designed to provide the opportunity for further intensive study in African Languages and Literature and training in concepts and research methods designed to equip the learner with the skills necessary either for employment in teaching; electronic and paper media publishing; Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and Government Service; Translation; Diplomatic Service; Tourism; Cultural Entrepreneurship; Public Relations or for further study at Master's and Doctoral level in IsiNdebele.

Rationale:
The qualification is intended to be a comparative study of Languages, Literature and Culture; training in concepts and research methods designed to equip the learner with the skills necessary either for employment in the fields mentioned above or for further study at Master's and Doctoral level in IsiNdebele. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The admission of learners via prior leaning is according to the institutions official Policy on Assessment and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as contained in the institution calendar which falls in line with South African Qualification Authority RPL requirement for prior learning, particularly those learners who have working experience in the Language of isiNdebele and are equipped to successfully complete the qualification.

The minimum entry requirements for this qualification is:

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
  • Design a research project to answer literary/linguistic questions.
  • Formulate a sophisticated linguistic/literary argument drawing on appropriate theory and research.
  • Produce critiques of literary/linguistic theory and research.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Complete a series of exercises which serve to integrate skills learned during the Honours year and to prepare for the Master's Dissertation.
  • Incorporate relevant technical data into descriptive and argumentative writing.
  • Analyse new and abstract data situation deploying a wide range of concepts appropriate to the field of study and transformation of the abstract data and concepts towards achieving a given purpose.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
  • Organise ideas and facts logically and coherently.
  • Cite references accurately and consistently.
  • Make use of computer-based bibliographical packages to conduct advanced analyses.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
  • Utilise advanced methods to address research questions.
  • Evaluate the quality of linguistic/literacy research.
  • Review evidence supporting conclusion e.g. reliability, validity and significance and investigating contradicting information in research.

    Integrated Assessment:
    As the Summative Assessment of the qualification, the learner produces a research paper which demonstrates the capacity for independent thought and research, knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the subject and of scholarly literature. The following components are integral parts of the production of the research paper: 1) A focused literature review based on the use of a variety of text and other media which informs a potential research question. 2) The formulation of a research question and the development of research proposal based on the literature review. The proposal must specify a research design and the method/s to be applied to answer the research question. 3) The demonstration of a professional working relationship by responding to the comments of the project supervisor. 4) The carrying out of the research proposed and its presentation in a manner which accords with the publication conventions of the discipline. 5) To develop an ability to write a motivated evaluation of a literary text. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    The University of Zimbabwe in the Department of African Languages and Literature it was established 1960. By combining the established disciplines of linguistics, applied linguistics, language practice, cultural studies and studies on indigenous knowledge systems, a new platform for the training of language, literary, cultural practitioners in Zimbabwe was inaugurated. The major mandate of the Department is to teach, research and offer community service and consultancy from the viewpoint of African languages, literature, culture, ethos and indigenous knowledge systems in a myriad of ways that relate to the areas of expertise of its members of staff. The Department offers wide-range of consultancy services, which include second language instruction, translation, interpreting and editing services, pre- and in-service training of various language practitioners and advising on language and cultural policy directions and options as well as curriculum development in the afore-said areas of expertise. Learners in the Department receive a training opportunity that does not exist elsewhere in this format. The courses afford learners the opportunity to hone their language, literary, translation, and interpreting, editing, writing and cultural skills and acquire the necessary ability to work with technological language systems.

    Lupane State University in Zimbabwe:
    The insitution provide a supportive environment for both theoretical and applied approaches, and for open, critical debate on various aspects of language learning and language use. Learners use their language learning experience to gain an understanding of how language is related to individual cognition and to social context.

    They gain an appreciation of how languages are used to achieve a wide range of social, cultural, aesthetic purposes. The institution equip the graduates with some basic knowledge of modern languages necessary for intercultural communication and also inculcate into graduates a mentality of viewing applied language studies as a problem-driven field that also includes the solution of language-related problems in the real world.

    The qualification entry requirements is five (5) 'O' level passes including English and isiNdebele. And 2 'A' level passes including isiNdebele, five (5) 'O' level passes including English and isiNdebele. And 2 'A' level passes including isiNdebele or;
    A Diploma in Education majoring in isiNdebele, duration of the programme is 4 years Conventional and Block Release.
