The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
This qualification is designed to provide the opportunity for further intensive study in Human Resources Management and training in concepts and research methods that equip the learner with the skills necessary either for employment in Human Resources Management. It also provides the learners with an understanding and working application of the principles essential to the effective management of organisations, with specialisation in the human resource function.

Rationale:
The qualification is of special interest to the working professional in business, private and public organisations and those who wish to pursue a career in Human Resources Management. The qualification offers in employment the opportunity to extend their qualifications and become empowered in their quest to be human resource managers. In addition, the qualification will provide a route for learners aspiring to study further in the established Master of Commerce qualification or Master's and Doctoral level in Human Resource Management or a related subject area. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
There is policy of recognition of prior learning at the institution, the department of Human Resource Management will admit learners based on learning which may have taken place outside of formal education and training, which is valuable, irrespective of where or when it was obtained. This includes skills or knowledge from work training and experienced gained in workplace, short courses from community work or relevant field. Prior learning will be measured against specified prescribed learning outcomes.

The minimum entry requirements for this qualification is:

  • Conduct independent research in the discipline of HRM.
  • Present formal academic researched paper in the form of project.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Expose the various facets of Human Resource (HR) in general and creating awareness of HR issues that relate to South African context in particular.
  • Do staffing strategy, legal compliance, staffing planning, job analysis external recruitment, internal recruitment, measurement, external selection.
  • Master employment decision-making, and staffing systems management.

    Associate Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
  • Emphasise on analysis of labour- management relationship.
  • Conduct processes, practices and debates associated with employment relationships.
  • Collect theory and research on actions and bargaining behaviour and conflict resolutions.
  • Describe organisational, institutional and market contexts that affect employment relations in any industrial society.

    Associate Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
  • Understand basic ethics concepts and distinctions, fair treatment at work and key factors that shape ethical behaviour at work.
  • Acquire the skills to know ways in which HR management can influence ethical behaviour at work by employing fair disciplinary practices.
  • Impart knowledge to learners about governance issues and modules in an organisations, this includes employee rights and managing discipline.

    Associate Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5:
  • Learn how organisations faces fierce competition and limited budgets, and execute with razor-sharp focus or be left behind.
  • Understand SAP as a success, performance, compensation and goals that will help organisation to ensure strategy and goal alignment.
  • Learn how to continuously improve workforce performance through ongoing coaching and feedback, and accurately evaluate and recognise top talent, and reward best employees.

    Associate Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 6:
  • Introduce the historical development of psychological assessment, nature of psychological testing and procedures, psychological approaches.
  • Master the psychometric theory in psychological assessment, measurement concepts and types of psychological techniques.
  • Describe and use psychological assessment in the work context, professional, legal and social questions in psychological evaluation.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The Integrated Assessment of a qualification in Human Resource Management includes measurement of foundational, practical and reflective competencies taught through the formative course work components of the qualification. The learner is required to complete a series of exercises which serve to integrate skills learned during the Honours year. Tests, Assignment, case studies, presentation and examinations. As the summative assessment of the qualification the learner produces a research paper which demonstrates the capacity for independent thought and research, knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the field and of scholarly literature. Specially, with references to literature review based on the use of a variety of methods and theories relating to human resource management. The formulation of a research question and the development of research proposal based on the literature review. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    The Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College is College of the University of Brunel, in the United Kingdom is listed as an accredited state recognised institution. The Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College offers the same qualification as what the institution is offering with the same modules of 120 Credits in total, whereby 15 Credits each module and the research project of 30 Credits. The Outcomes and Assessment Criteria, the Degree of complexity and the notional learning time of this Qualification have been benchmarked against Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and best national and international practice.

    The second benchmark is Zambia Open University which also offers seven modules of 15 Credits each and also have two elective modules to choose for in first semester and two electives in second semester. There also have research project of 30 Credits which is the same qualification that the institution is offering and is offered in National Qualification Framework Level 8.
