The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the qualifying learner with advanced levels of training necessary for applied management and/or applied research within the Forestry industry and related fields.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Access can be gained through RPL by learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

Entry Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Forestry, Level 7 or equivalent.
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in Forestry, Level 8.
  • Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Wood Science, Level 8.
  • Postgraduate Diploma: Forestry and Wood Science, Level 8.

  • Discuss and provide conclusions on the outcome and findings of the research.
  • Publish research findings in accredited journal.
  • Present papers and lectures based on the research.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The Learner's abilities are tested through:
  • Written or oral examination of mastery of the theoretical/academical component of learning by means of an externally examined and moderated research paper on an appropriate subject.
  • Continuous evaluation.
