The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The qualifying learner will be competent in consistently using a variety of technical, managerial and personal skills and strategies in the everyday running of a tourism enterprise. The successful learner will have developed a sound foundation for progression into management and industry leadership positions, and to exploit entrepreneurial opportunities. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Access may be granted, through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), to learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

Entry Requirements:
  • A qualification in Tourism Management, Level 5.
  • National Senior Certificate, Level 4 granting access to Diploma studies Senior Certificate, Level 4 with Matriculation exemption.
  • Senior Certificate, Level 4 with Matriculation Exemption.
  • National Certificate Vocation, Level 4 with a relevant specialisation, granting access to Diploma studies.

  • Implement sustainable tourism planning strategies at national, provincial, regional and local level.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Create a detailed business plan for a tourism enterprise.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
  • Organise an event and conference.
  • Formulate detailed itineraries to this area.
  • Calculate advanced international airfares and air tickets.
  • Conduct tours in local regions and environments.
  • Develop and present a personal portfolio for finding a co-operative education position in the tourism industry.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
  • Produce a critical report on own experience and competencies acquired in co-operative education situation.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The learner's ability to integrate the elements of the programme is assessed through case studies, projects, presentations, portfolios, tests and formal examinations.
