The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the qualifying learner with the necessary qualifications and experience required for employment in the Forestry industry at intermediate and higher levels of management. The successful learner will have developed a sound foundation for progression into management and industry leadership positions and to exploit entrepreneurial opportunities. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Access may be granted, through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), to learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

Entry requirements:
  • A qualification at Level 5 in Forestry.
  • National Senior Certificate, Level 4 granting access to Diploma studies.
  • Senior Certificate, Level 4 with Matriculation exemption.
  • National Certificate Vocation, Level 4 with a relevant specialisation, granting access to Diploma studies.

  • An understanding of the basic principles of productivity, competence and competitiveness in a forestry environment at intermediate to advanced levels.

    2. Demonstrate:
  • The ability to compile and evaluate management plans at intermediate to high levels.
  • The ability to compile and evaluate reports on forestry activities and systems.
  • An understanding of forest economics principles.
  • The ability to implement systems to maintain and develop human, financial and environmental resources.

    3. Demonstrate the ability to:
  • Implement management systems on intermediate to high levels, in a forestry environment.
  • Control functions in human, financial and environmental resources management.
  • Maintain infrastructure and operational equipment in a forestry environment.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The learner's abilities are tested through:
  • Written or oral examination of mastery of the theoretical/academic component of learning.
  • Continuous evaluation.
