Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • To develop nursing researchers that can do independent research and make an original contribution to the science of nursing.
  • The dissertation will be in line with the research focus of the university and the health needs of the South African society. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
  • Access can be gained through RPL by learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

    Entry Requirements:
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing Science, Level 9.

    The graduate will on completion of the qualification be able to:
    1.1. Deliver proof of the expertise to conduct independent research.
    1.2. Make an original contribution to the knowledge content and development of nursing as a science and profession.
    1.3. Demonstrate insight in the science philosophy and paradigms in nursing and the ability to develop nursing theory.
    1.4. Communicate research in publications and conferences nationally and internationally.
    1.5. Disseminate research findings to the academic and broader community to improve nursing practice and health service. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    The thesis must comply with national requirements of a thesis at Level 10.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The criteria for assessing learners are based on the learning outcomes listed above and the strategies that will be used to ensure that the specific and critical cross-field outcomes are achieved comprise of:
  • At least three examiners of whom two are external examiners from outside the university to evaluate the thesis.
  • An oral examination on the research for the Degree may be required.
