The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The aim of this qualification is to develop marketing researchers who are able to apply research methods and conduct independent research in order to provide solutions to contemporary marketing problems and generate new knowledge. Qualified learners should be able to demonstrate integrated knowledge on research methodologies and implement evidence based strategies to exploit market opportunities and solve marketing problems.

Rationale:
The qualified learner will be competent in conducting research to such an extent that a substantial contribution is made towards the development of the field of marketing. The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. This qualification articulate vertically into the Doctor of Commerce in Marketing. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution will review learner prior learning and outcome. If outcome is not achieved, a learner may appeal RPL outcome which would be presented to Senate.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Master of Management in Marketing, NQF Level 9.

    1. Apply applied detailed knowledge and understanding of the research process and contribute towards the development of the field of marketing by exploring or investigating a specific topic in marketing. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
  • Complete a thesis in the marketing field in such a way that a contribution is made towards the development of marketing as a social science.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Continuous assessment of research work, self-assessment, summative assessment on the completion of the thesis. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    The qualification was designed following a comprehensive benchmarking process with related national and international qualifications. It was also reviewed by a panel of experts comprising industry experts, national and international Professors in the marketing field. The continuous benchmarking process shall also involve presentations of completed thesis at local and international colloquiums and conferences.

    This qualification allows possibilities for horizontal articulation.
