Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.

A person credited with this qualification has the skills to apply appropriate strategies, skills and controls in order to together with related environmental fraternities, ensure a healthy environment.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Access may be gained to the qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Entry Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate, Level 4 granting access to Diploma studies with two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.
    Or
  • National Certificate Vocational, Level 4 granting access to Diploma studies with two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.
    Or
  • Senior Certificate with two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.
    Or
  • A Further Education and Training Certificate, Level 4 with two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.

    2. Strategies, techniques and methods to assess foods and are applied appropriately to ensure safe food for human consumption:
  • Food industries are audited and controlled against established criteria.
  • Relevant legislation and policies are correctly applied in both formal and informal food industries.
  • A given food context is analysed and the appropriate legislative policies and actions described correctly.

    3. Environmental pollutants are being anticipated, evaluated and controlled in the environment effectively:
  • The relevant environmental legislation is correctly interpreted and applied for the external environment.

    4. The environmental health factors responsible for disease are identified, controlled and evaluated in accordance with the disease management principles:
  • The environmental health factors responsible for disease control have been controlled using the application of disease prevention and control techniques.
  • A method for the prevention of a pest and vector is been is being identified and recommended.
  • The common morbidity and mortality rates have been described and interpreted.
  • The impact of urbanisation on the health of communities has been properly appraised through the application of prescribed assessment procedures.
  • Health promotion programmes are developed and implemented.
  • The health issues are effectively identified and controlled in building and demolition scenarios.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Assessment is continuous and will be done according to the following basis:
  • Formative assessment.
  • Written tests on completed theory.
  • Laboratory work is assessed where applicable.
  • Practical work is assessed where applicable.

    Summative Assessment:
  • One written theoretical examination.
  • One written practical examination (applicable to practical/theoretical matter including case studies and/or projects).
