Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
To make a significant contribution, through research, to the understanding, application and evaluation of existing knowledge in a specialised area of technology and to demonstrate a high level of overall knowledge in that specialised area, ranging from fundamental concepts to advanced theoretical and applied knowledge.

Rationale: 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.
In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy. Access may be grated through RPL following the RPL policy to learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Bachelor of the Built Environment Honours in Urban and Regional Planning, NQF Level 8.

    This qualification consists of the following compulsory modules at Level 9 totalling180 Credits.

    Compulsory Modules:
  • Research and dissertation, 180 Credits.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome:
  • Demonstrate familiarity with relevant and recent trends in technologies, techniques, models and theories in the chosen field through the survey of the listed literature and cited literature.
  • Analyse, explain and correctly juxtapose in oral presentation and written records the models, principles, theories, techniques and methodologies in the chosen field.
  • Fully and correctly justify in oral presentations and written records of research the use of literature surveys/experimentation/correlation/casual analysis.
  • Identify, define and detail the research problem in the research proposal.
    >The stated hypothesis directs the investigation.
    >Logical interpretation of data reflects a clear understanding of the relationship between facts in the study and the ability to evaluate contradictory information.
  • Correctly and appropriately use and include a range of media as Information sources.
  • Effectively apply information technology skills in information searches, data analyses, data presentation, and the production of the dissertation.
  • Correctly apply the appropriate mathematical and statistical methods of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Provide valid analysis of the inferences, interpretations and conclusions from measurements, and statistical analyses are accurate.
  • Effectively and correctly apply language and numeracy skills in communicating the research problem, its investigation, outcome and recommendations.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The assessment of this qualification occurs through the research dissertation.
