Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
Learners achieving this qualification are competent in applying advanced research skills to solve a problem within a related educational field and to make an original contribution to the existing body of knowledge. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Master of Education, NQF Level 9.

    QUALIFICATION RULES 
    The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated outcomes.

  • Compile and present research findings, original conclusions and proposals in a properly set out thesis.
  • Disseminate the findings.

  • Search the literature.
  • Formulate the research problem/research question and sub problems.
  • State the hypothesis/possible answer to question.
  • Define concepts.
  • Select a research strategy and research methodology (ies).
  • Decide on relevant data collection and analysis techniques.
  • Implement the data collection technique to collect data.
  • Analyse data and present results.
  • Interpret findings.
  • Draw conclusions and suggest recommendations.
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge and skills in a related field of education.
  • Describe the extent of study clearly.
