| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
This qualification intends for larners to make a significant and original contribution to knowledge in a specialised area of dental technology. They will have a high level of overall experience in that specialised area ranging from fundamental concepts to advanced theoretical concepts and application of knowledge.The learner achieving this qualification will be competent to complete a specialised and independent research project in the field of dental technology. The qualifying learner will be an authority on previous research and the latest technology and techniques in the appropriate field of expertise. Rationale: Dental Technology is a dynamic field and depends on current technological research to develop and advance technology. This qualification runs parallel to academic research and provides a platform for the development and advancement of Dental Technology. This qualification is not limited to, but is pivotal in, supporting academic dental research by developing the technology needed to conduct new academic research. The duration of this qualification is a minimum study period of two years and a maximum period of five years. |
