| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
This certificate provides students with a comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of fleet management, together with a range of academic skills and competencies. The learners acquiring this qualification will have a matric certificate and an interest in the fleet management field. Alternatively people who have been working in this field for a number of years, but have not got a formal qualification will benefit from the course. This qualification will be registered at NQF level 5 of the National Qualifications Framework and learners will acquire a range of competence around the areas of short term rental management, industry market analysis, concepts of fleet management, maintenance and the management of vehicle selection and procurement as well as knowledge surrounding the organization, accounting principles as well as sales management. Rationale for the qualification: The qualification reflects the needs of the Fleet Management sector, in order to develop the general skills pool in this area of expertise. The qualification is aimed at a general level to introduce the learners to fleet management with a preference for work within the motor industry (at banks, dealers, manufacturers and fleet management companies). The qualification is structured in such a way that it exposes learners to a broad set of core competencies supported by various elective components that will develop understanding and knowledge. This qualification will be of benefit to those learners who are involved within the corporate environment, those who manage government or NGO fleets and to those learners who own their own business and wish to develop their fleet expertise. The qualification will be of benefit to learners who are entering the job market, or have been working, but have fleet management experience in the work environment. The certificate aims to give in detailed knowledge of fleet management, together with the ability to handle the practical demands placed on the manager and employee in the fleet management environment. The qualification will produce knowledgeable, skilled people who are able to contribute to improved customer relations through a better knowledge and understanding of the vehicle industry as well as improving efficiency within the fleet management industry which is essential within the South African Context. The learner need not have any previous experience in fleet management in order to apply for the certificate. The learner may be from any sector, working in a small business, government or in the community. The qualification will give flexibility and accessibility to the learner and to the employed. It will also promote the notion of life-long learning. |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| This qualification assumes that the learner is competent in the language of the instruction material, and the general theoretical and practical and professional and academic knowledge accomplished at NQF 4.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): The qualification can be attained in part or in full through recognition of prior learning which includes the learning outcomes having been achieved through formal, informal and non-formal learning and work experience. Recognition of Learning may allow for the accelerated access of learners to further learning. At this time, Recognition of Prior Learning will be conducted under the auspices of the relevant ETQA. |

Integrated Assessment: In the assessment strategy as a whole, evidence must be demonstrated through a variety of options: Formal written and where applicable oral examination/assessment. As the mode of learning is distance education it is essential that the self tests which are used within the material properly prepare the learner for the assignments which have to be handed in as well as in preparation for the summative assessment. The learner will be assessed. Formative Assessment will be attained through the exercises that are included within the learning material as well as through the composition of a portfolio of evidence which is be kept by the learner as proof of the learning that has been acquired. |
| INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
| Internationally there is a lot of information to support the development of such a course. New Zealand and the United Kingdom have developed much information with regards to the vehicle industry and there is much available in fleet management. |
| ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
| On successful completion of the certificate the learner will be able to transfer credits for both horizontal or vertical movement and further study at certificate or diploma level in the field of fleet or business, commerce and management studies.
More specifically, learners will be granted access to any of the other providers within the Educor Group who offer fleet management Qualifications at diploma level on the NQF. | Lyceum College Course development department are responsible for the production of assignments, projects and case studies and reports and associated assessment criteria. The marking of assignments, projects and case studies and portfolios must be in accordance with this pre-determined assessment criteria.
