PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
Firstly, it provides employed graduates with the opportunity to use the programme to enhance their career perspective/promotions and access fairly senior positions where there is still an almost complete paucity of professionals, by enrolling and completing the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in any of the specialisations on a full-or part-time basis.

Secondly, it provides opportunity for employees in research institutes, centres and governmental organisations to jointly do research with the University to foster funded research collaboration and jointly make scientific contributions to the community at large.

Thirdly, it provides young talented graduates, who are interested in research to make original contributions in one of these fields of specialisation and thus promote capacity building in Research within the Higher Education system.
