The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • Provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of Applied Biotechnology that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contribution to society.
  • Produce graduates who can develop the Biotechnology industry in South Africa and understand the importance of research in this area.
  • Produce postgraduates of a calibre to sustain and develop the Biotechnology in South Africa.
  • Develop a research capacity adequate to stimulate growth in the numbers of Master of Science/Doctor of Philosophy (MSc/PhD) students, and the co-operation of the Biotechnology and the related sectors of the economy in joint research efforts.

    3. Communicate effectively, in both oral and written modes, with peers and the broader biotechnology community.
    4. Assume responsibility for planning resourcing and managing processes.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes:
    The following Associated Assessment Criteria are assessed in an integrated manner across all the Exit Level Outcomes:

  • Carry out minor research.
  • Report on research and project findings.

  • We have adopted the continuous evaluation system. This includes tests, essays, practical reports, project reports and oral presentations.
