| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The purposes of the qualification are:
To provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific and applied competence in a Dental/Allied discipline, e.g. Maxillofacial Radiology, that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society. To provide South Africa with significant numbers of Postgraduates in a number of Dental/Allied discipline, e.g. Maxillofacial Radiology, in order to ensure that the local leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity is widened. |

2. Possess specialised knowledge of a major Dental/Allied discipline, capable of information processing at the level of analysis, transformation of abstract data and concepts, and capable of formulation of appropriate responses to resolve contextually abstract dental problem. 3. Communicate effectively in both oral and written modes, with peers and the broader community using the appropriate structure, style and graphic support. 4. Assume responsibility for planning, resourcing and managing processes within the broader parameters and functions and assume complete accountability for determining, achieving and evaluating personal and/or group output. |
