The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose is to ensure learners:
  • Are provided with and gain, in-depth knowledge, advanced skills and applied competence in the Science of Professional Nursing and Midwifery.
  • That significant numbers of internationally recognised, highly skilled person power, within all subfields of Nursing Science/Midwifery develop personal and professional growth, contribute broadly to the health sector and both fulfil and generate economic development in South African society. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
  • This qualification may be accessed through the Recognition of Prior Learning, which includes formal learning and work experience.

  • The learner will have attained the Master of Nursing Science Degree by thesis or coursework, or an equivalent.

Responsibility for planning, resourcing, managing, evaluating and optimising appropriate responses to complex, unpredictable and diverse health contexts at the technical/practical and scholarly levels with personal and professional attributes that illustrate accountable, confident outcomes.
